PayNet links Malaysian bank apps to Alipay+ QR merchants in five markets

Maybank, CIMB and Hong Leong Bank customers can now pay Alipay+ QR merchants in five Asian markets from their banking apps through a new PayNet link.

PayNet, Malaysia’s national payments network, said on October 28 that customers of Maybank, CIMB and Hong Leong Bank can now scan Alipay+ merchant QR codes in China, Hong Kong, South Korea, the Philippines and Laos from their existing banking apps. Bank Islam is expected to join soon, and users do not need an Alipay+ account or a separate wallet.

Why it matters: The link runs the PayNet and Alipay+ partnership in the outbound direction for the first time, since the arrangement has let foreign wallet users pay at DuitNow QR merchants in Malaysia since November 2023, and it adds five destinations to DuitNow QR links that already reach Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Cambodia. PayNet handled nearly 30 million cross-border transactions in 2025, about 150% more than in 2024, with China-linked payments behind much of the growth.
