Ripple wins final OCC approval for its national trust bank

The OCC gave Ripple final approval for Ripple National Trust Bank, which will hold the reserves behind its RLUSD stablecoin and offer digital asset custody.

Ripple said on October 26 that the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency had granted final approval to charter Ripple National Trust Bank, following conditional approval on December 12, 2025. The US trust bank will manage the segregated reserves behind Ripple USD (RLUSD), a stablecoin with a $2.5 billion market cap, act as collateral trustee for RLUSD holders and offer fiduciary digital asset custody.

Why it matters: RLUSD reserves now come under OCC supervision while issuance stays with Standard Custody & Trust Company, Ripple’s trust company regulated by the New York Department of Financial Services. The charter does not allow Ripple to take deposits or make commercial loans, and on October 27 Ripple and BNY, the primary custodian of RLUSD reserves, said they would widen their custody work and explore tokenised trade finance.
