Airtel Money set the offer price for its London Stock Exchange IPO at £1.96 a share on October 1, implying a market capitalisation of about £5.3 billion (around US$7.0 billion) at admission. Existing shareholders are selling 270 million shares, the IFC has committed up to £67.2 million as a cornerstone investor, and admission is expected on October 14.
Why it matters: The listing gives African mobile money a public-market valuation benchmark. With about 16.5% of shares expected in public hands and Airtel Africa staying on as a long-term strategic shareholder, it prices the business without a wholesale sell-down by its parent.
