Swift ledger carries live tokenised payments for most of its first-mover banks

Most of the 17 first-mover banks on Swift’s blockchain ledger have made 24/7 tokenised payments in five currencies, Swift said as Sibos opened in Miami.

The Swift ledger has now been used by most of its 17 first-mover banks for 24/7 real-time payments of tokenised value, Swift said on September 28 as it opened Sibos in Miami. Those banks have transacted in five currencies (EUR, GBP, HKD, SGD and USD), and more than 100 institutions are live or going live on Swift's separate consumer payments framework.

Why it matters: Swift is presenting itself as the layer that connects fiat and tokenised money, and its argument rests on reach: 12,500 connected institutions that can add tokenised settlement on a platform they already use.
